About This Practitioner

Shumaila Poonja is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in emergency medicine. Before becoming an FNP, she worked as an emergency room nurse for seven years, caring for patients in fast-paced, high-acuity settings. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.

Shumaila also holds two bachelor’s degrees – a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University.

Growing up in Carrollton, Texas, Shumaila is keenly focused on providing compassionate, evidence-based care to her community. She values building strong, trusting relationships with her patients and enjoys empowering them to take an active role in their health.

Outside of work, she enjoys playing pickleball and participating in her local book club.
