About This Practitioner

Dr. Tonya Hawkins Hunter, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with more than 20 years of experience providing comprehensive women’s healthcare in private practice, hospital, and academic settings. Her expertise includes full-scope obstetrics and gynecology, high-volume and high-risk obstetric care, emergency obstetrics, operative deliveries, and minimally invasive and robotic gynecologic surgery.
Dr. Hawkins has practiced in a variety of clinical environments, including founding and operating her own independent OB/GYN practice and serving as an OB/GYN Laborist, where she provided high-volume labor and delivery and emergency obstetric care while mentoring residents and medical students. She also served as Department Chair at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
An accomplished physician and educator, Dr. Hawkins has served as clinical faculty for Tulane University School of Medicine and LSU Health Sciences Center, as well as a clinical lecturer for Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has held leadership roles in organized medicine, including the Louisiana Medical Association and Ouachita Medical Society.
Dr. Hawkins earned her medical degree and completed her OB/GYN residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hawkins is a proud mother of three and a lifelong pianist. She values faith, family, wellness, and the opportunity to serve her community.
